What can I say? I don't think there...Hi Kevin,

What can I say? I don't think there is a word to describe what I feel every time I read TAUS articles, or ALS articles and similar stuff. I fail to understand the place all these guys have in translators' congresses. And they are not there to be objectively analyzed! That would make sense. They go there as Kings, so that whatever they say is immediately accepted by the community of professionals. If you see the pictures (or see them in action as I have seen a couple of the gurus), most colleagues look at them WITH ADMIRATION (!!!!). "Quality does not matter," "The rate is not important, the income is important" (i.e. multiply that lousy rate by 25 hours per day... and it's a LOT OF MONEY!), or "Post-editing is the niche" (not to mention the excuse of the "free market" as if that was enough to dump our market [to their benefit, of course]). "Don't blame me; blame the Invisible Hand!"

I understand they have their own objectives (opposed to ours), but I cannot understand the place we give them in our professional life. Barcelona's coach does not train his team to help Real de Madrid win XX Football Cup, right?

We should be dedicating less time to translation theory and language, and focus on these red-hot issues.

Have a nice day,

AuAurora Humaránhttp://www.aipti.org/eng/aurora-humaran/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2477329189905907968.post-86268613335050439642011-09-20T23:36:06.336+02:002011-09-20T23:36:06.336+02:00@Aurora: There certainly is a lot of harassment in...@Aurora: There certainly is a lot of harassment involved in the MT campaign. Intimidation subtle and otherwise. Just go to the TAUS site, browse the articles there and see if you can disagree with a straight face. If you can, we'll move on to diagnosing your pathology.

There is no threat here. The gurus want our corpora! :))) If we say NO to post-editing we are certainly hurting their business. (I will do anything before feeding the machine created to destroy me). It may be late to change the TM paradigm (I still don't understand how we let that happen), but it is not late to protect our own corpus which they need so much.
Cheers,
AuAurora Humaránhttp://www.aipti.org/eng/aurora-humaran/noreply@blogger.com
